The USA rulers not only didn't do much to prevent the war, they WANTED the war or at least a clever surrender and abandonment of Crimea by Russia, for Crimea to be handed over to NATO as a naval and military facility in readiness for further attacks on Russia when timely.
I don’t think many members of our establishment expended much effort trying to prevent this war. To the contrary, much was done to make Ukr into a proper proxy power - ready to beat the crap out of the overrated stupid drunk incompetent cowardly russkis.
Since the historical Russian ownership of Crimea and Sevastopol as their southern naval base and Mediterranean outlet was transferred to Ukraine within USSR several decades ago, it was leased to Russia as a naval and military base.
Ukraine was in a position to unsign whatever lease was agreed with Russia under the duress of the breakup of the USSR. By unsigning or terminating the lease, whether in accordance with terms of the lease or not, Russia could be booted out and USA/NATO installed in its place in Crimea. Unsigning is a legal process invented by USA and used many times and of course unsigning goes back forever - called "changed my mind and anyway, I lied and there's nothing you can do about it". The unsigning of the Minsk agreement is just another example.
So it's quite understandable that given the attack on Russia being prepared, Russia decided to nip it in the bud, take over Crimea, defend the eastern rebellion, and finally invade Ukraine to defeat the Americans, Eurostan, UK, New Zealand and co-conspirators before they got a grip.
As I've written all along, the USA/NATO/New Zealand/AUKUS/Eurostan gangsters have made a BIG mistake by attacking Russia. The Americans were run by Zbigniew, McCain and other anti-USSR anti-Stalin vengeful atavistic cold war warmongers who mistakenly thought defeating the USSR was still the main military action required even though Gorby had taken over and he was not in the slightest interested in continuing the mass-murdering totalitarian horrors of old. When USSR collapsed, the USA could not change its mind. It simply kept up the war on USSR but renamed it the war on Russia.
The gangsters should have made Russia into a partner and included Russia in NATO, built more gas pipelines, invested in mines and production, integrating Russia into Eurostan. By doing so, the war could have been avoided and Eurostan could have had a big GDP boost instead of what they've got going now which is back to burning wood and being impoverished. Eurostan/NATO/USA eastern border could have been the Great Wall of China instead of the line running from Finland to Istanbul. Romania, Berlin, Helsinki are now the western front for China, with Russia holding the line there on China's behalf. China will provide whatever support is needed for Russia to prevail there.
Not only that, but the idiotic USA/NATO have managed to make an enemy out of India which is backing Russia [at least economically by continuing to buy and sell with Russia]. Saudi Arabia is no longer a property of USA either. Nor a lot more besides = Libya, Syria, Egypt, Pakistan, Burma, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, all have got reason to think maybe China is a better bet than USA as a buddy - having your wedding parties bombed gets tiring after it happens too much. Brazil will swing China's way. As has half of Africa.
It looks like there is again a Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere under construction, but this time led by China rather than Japan. Japan tried it in the late 19th century / early 20th century but mass-murdering wasn't winning hearts and minds. Genghis Khan succeeded grandly, all the way to Hungary, but the Little Ice Age put a chill on things and was superseded by the fantastic Industrial Revolution and Enlightenment of Europe which took over the world almost completely. Now, Eurostan has collapsed and is being over-run by people from everywhere. USA too is being conquered by people simply walking in and taking over.
If I was Saudi Arabian, learning QWERTY pronouns and accepting dissolute nihilistic values would be unappealing compared with trading with China and Russia. I guess a LOT of countries prefer Belt and Road economic success to the alternatives.
40 years ago, I would not have thought it might be better for USSR/Chairman Mao/Stasi to rule the world. But now I'm not so sure. Weird for things to have come to that. The so-called "free" world has gone more and more communist including Big Brother Stasi ideology, while China and Russia have gone in the opposite direction.
Meanwhile the so-called "free" world continues ramping up for Mutual Assured Destruction without any apparent ability to rethink = right here in Silicon Investor, Politics for Pros, we see the obdurate, intransigent thinking based on false premises = "Putin started it, out of thin air, for no reason, a war of choice, it's all his fault, he's Hitler wanting take over the world or at least the old USSR territory but all of Europe to .... ".
No reasoning, just repetition of "he started it" in February.
I say have voting in Eastern Ukraine instead of war run by Moscow, Washiington, Kiev, Londonistan. People claim to be in favour of democracy, but they don't want voting where it matters. The Brexit vote was okay instead of war run by Bruxelles, Moscow, Washington, Wellington. Scotland had an independence vote instead of war with England, Bruxelles, Washington, Moscow, Wellington. Voting works much better than murder - for civilized people, though atavistic animals prefer red in tooth and claw violence.
Russia has already organized and run voting, as did Americans in 2020 for President. Some people claim the USA presidential vote was a fake vote, but at least there wasn't mass shooting. Voting is much better. But it's true that stolen elections are a bad idea. American elections are now not worth the paper they aren't written on [being pixels in a swindling computer system].
