"esc" keyboard key does not help.

I updated Java to whatever is latest (Java 8 update 351), I now have a Java Control Panel available through the System Preference app, it was not there before, so that's a nice addition. HOWever it does not fix the problem.

I then got a FireFox download and installed it. It worked, but the problematic messages box did not show up, so the web page on FireFox works differently compared to Safari.

So I phoned up the brokerage help person associated with this, and he was able to help get rid of the stuck messages box in Safari. He said I might need to go into FireFox next time this was a problem, to reset the messages. But in retrospect I think the support guy didn't realize the messages box would still NOT go away with the "X" button as it should, so the problem still isn't fixed.

So next in Safari on the brokerage web tab I tried to check out a recent order, the order seems to be stuck in "open" status and won't fill. Anyway that's another unrelated matter to be fixed, probably need to cancel the order and re-enter.

Next I tried as a test to put in a stock trade order. This uses a similar type of message or dialog box where you type in the order info, and do something like hit "OK" at the bottom of the box, or click an "X" at the top of the box to back out of the box. Just like with the original messages box, clicking the "X" does not work!

I think the brokerage might have changed something in their system sometime last year and did something to their system so it no longer works with my version of Safari. I didn't notice the problem before because this account is just in "hold" status, the buying was done years ago and I haven't done any trading in this account on my Mac for over a year.

FireFox on this Mac works for this brokerage trading however. And I can use this brokerage's iOS app alternately.

Time for a new Mac I guess, if I really want to use this brokerage system in this way again. Annoying though, because even though the computer is 11 years old it runs everything fine except this broker page, and at reasonable speed.

One last idea: how do I get a new copy of Safari onto my hard drive? I have the most up-to-date version for my MacOS but maybe the Safari file(s) on the hard drive are corrupted, causing the brokerage problems.
