That's easy. The chip stocks peaked about a year ago, and stock prices have been falling since then. The bottom is probably closer than a year. And when the chip stocks bounce, you get a huge percentage of the upward move in the first month or two, so ...... you can buy chips now just on the hopes that semis bottom within the next 9 months.

Lots of semi companies are saying Q1 2023 will be the fundamental bottom. They could bounce any day now!

I am thinking about putting in some bids as early as tomorrow based upon the reasons we are discussing here. Even if I end up being premature I ultimately will end up being right.

Whatever downside is left is nothing compared to the upside we will see towards the end of this decade. Look at the performance since the previous bottoms. The first chart is the same as the second but if you have Firefox as your browser that chart will continue to update:
