For a lot of Russians the concept of war with Ukraine is incomprehensible and extremely painful, and Putin is not supported, which
is why it is SMO, not war. Still, killing Ukrainians is not supported, so Vlad does not have 100% support.
War with Ukraine would be very painful for many Russians including church divorce. From what I understand, they are switching Ukraine to its own bishop, be independent from Moscow, which is ok since they are a different country. Instead of being in Moscow patriarchate they are now in Constantinople patriarchate. They were their before the reunion of Ukraine with Russia in 1654. In order to remedy the pain of war with Ukraine it was called SMO. I don’t think putin wants to collapse the west, he can’t do it. He is simply dealing with sanctions and tried to make Russia more independent from European and other economies.
