I'm talking about circa 1992. The local trading store sold a Marlin 22LR semi auto for about $100, I believe Winchester were still trading then too. Anyway I put a scope on the 22 auto that cost more then the rifle and also bought some high capacity magazines. At 50 yards or so, the first bullet would miss a pinhead by a centimetre or something because the system was only so stable, but using that as a sighter, the second or third bullet would usually take out the pinhead. They came about a second later. The 12 gauge pump was a Winchester if I remember correctly. I used to go to the local club and shoot a lot of clays, and recycle all my own shells, developed my own duplex load too.

But an ordinary 22LR would be good enough for most defence purposes I expect. One of the local guys put me onto 22 shorts. You have to action them singly in the breech but the retort is quieter then even an air rifle. Handy for local small game. With some game and a stack or dried goods I expect you should be able to hold out for an extended period.

In a "Mad Max" scenario, I would suspect its the biggar groups of individuals that would survive. The single preppers and smaller groups would become possible prey, especially if food was short and they have ample stores. So it would come down to joining a larger group and trusting people and being a team player. Could be a difficult decision -g-

But you already know the guys at your store. That could be your group ?

In the UK we don't have to worry about any of that, the police will save us, so they say. -g- Actually I do feel fairly safe where I am, unarmed, and I speak as someone would was a postman for some of the worst areas of Greenock, Scotland, and that was more dangerous than a lot of places in the USA imho, and probably Canada too. If total crapola happens, I would suspect I am in a slightly safer area too. It's mainly managed large estates and farms. I would call our team "The Feudals". That should make the right sort of statement. -g-
