Compaq-DEC Deal Has Nov. 1 Walkaway Date

The merger agreement between Compaq Computer Corp., Houston, and
Digital Equipment Corp., Maynard, Mass., has a Nov. 1 walkaway date,
according to documents the companies filed with federal regulators.
Digital agreed to pay Compaq $240 million for termination of the deal
under certain conditions, including acceptance of another company's
acquisition offer. Compaq last month offered approximately $9.6 billion
in cash and stock for Digital.

Thought I'd post this tidbit, it ran in today's WSJ...

Also - There is a news item in pcweek.com that states CPQ is now loading SAP software onto it's servers in an attempt to make installation headaches with that software a bit less so....

Then why do the go public with their interviews and comments to the press? Is it all ego driven? Perhaps some of them have another motive.

I don't know if you are seriously asking this question, but usually they give out positive advice on stocks they already own. They want other people to buy some to drive up the stock. You may not believe it or mot, but frankly it's true. If these people really cared about you or me they wouldn't be in the business of making money.
