Interesting. Not time to digest the full article but the excerpt failed to mention that we can make video, voice and text "calls" to most anywhere in the world for next to nothing in price, but the call QUALITY of talking to people over these devices to someone a mile a way SUCKS compared to a 1970s land line.

I think the same applies for new products. I remember being a chip designer and we spent a fortune to make sure it would work in all reasonable conditions for all process corners... but by the time I left after 20 years, this was changing to "get it out the door, most will work fine and we'll deal with returns, issues later after we build market share" as the general way things were done that was dragging even conservative HP in its wake.

Sadly, thinks like a Tesla don't have the luxury for "most to work fine" as the 6-sigma failure usually ends with a car in flames and often the occupant deceased.
