Northwest Link DSL is Deployed and Available Today High Speed Internet Access Over Standard Phone Lines Enables High Quality RealAudio and RealVideo SEATTLE, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwest Link, a leading Internet Service Provider (ISP), will present a demonstration today of the first commercial DSL Internet service in the Pacific Northwest. DSL is a breakthrough telecommunications technology that allows users to maintain ultra high-speed dedicated network connections over standard phone lines. The availability of DSL makes it possible for users to inexpensively access the next generation of Internet services, including full-motion, full-screen RealVideo and near CD quality RealAudio. Northwest Link, in association with RealNetworks (Nasdaq: RNWK - news), will demonstrate DSL's ability to carry high quality streaming media over the Internet at the offices of Bellevue's Acuity Corporation between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11th. Acuity is located in Suite 1430 of the Rainier Plaza building at 777 108th Ave. NE. RealNetworks has worked with content providers such as ABC News.com and Warner Bros. to produce sites with the highest quality RealAudio and RealVideo. There are currently more than 1000 radio stations broadcasting over the Internet and more than 25 stations broadcasting live video, representing some of the best content on the Web. With DSL, Internet users can now experience the growing number of websites containing high caliber multimedia. ''We are very excited that Northwest Link is providing DSL here in Seattle, enabling fast, inexpensive access to the Internet,'' said Brett Goodwin, product unit manager of media systems at RealNetworks. ''The deployment of this premiere technology represents a significant step towards ubiquitous use of full-screen RealVideo and near CD quality RealAudio both in the office and at home.'' ''DSL's ability to allow transfer rates over 100 times the speed of a 56kbps modem is unprecedented,'' John Beezer, Director of Marketing for Northwest Link, stated. ''For years, people have predicted that someday we'll be able to send and receive video over the phone, and now it's finally possible.'' By operating over standard phone lines, DSL significantly reduces the cost of high speed data connections. DSL is also very simple to set up. Unlike traditional high bandwidth connections, DSL requires only a modem attached to the user's phone line. In addition to advanced interactive media applications, DSL has a variety of commercial uses, such as network connectivity, Web surfing, and instantaneous file transfer. Several companies are aiming to bring DSL service into the home by the end of the year. _____________________________________________________________ Don't say whose equiptment is used.
