UMC unit to sign 120 mln usd sydicated loan contract Feb 23

TAIPEI (AFX-ASIA) - United Microelectronics Corp's 40-pect held unit
United Semiconductor Corp said it plans to sign contracts with banks for 120
mln usd of syndicated loan.
Interest will be 52.5 basis points over LIBOR, a USC official said.
Currency conversion between U.S. dollars, yen, and Taiwan dollars will be
allowed for the loan, he noted.
Citibank N.A. and other 11 banks will together provide the loan, with
Citibank being arranger.
Separately, USC plans to trade on the local equities market next year.
At 10:30 am, UMC was off 1.50 to 80.00 twd on volume of 50.38 mln shares.
