And, amazingly enough, it retained all of it's famed ease of use and plug-and-play capabilities.

It always amazes me the amount of s**t that so-called advanced users tolerate, be it Win3.11, Unix, Linux or MacOS. Of all the OSes I've used the two that I consider the less harmful (in their time) are MacOS around 1991 and WinNT today.

Yet, just a few days ago I had to run some legacy MSDOS code and I couldn't help but be charmed by being able to "install" a software package just by copying the directory from a floppy to a hard drive. I don't care what M$, UNIX or Apple say, you ought to still be able to do that.

They've ported it to PPC, too. And, amazingly enough, it retained all of it's famed ease of use and plug-and-play capabilities.

You shouldn't knock Linux. Yeah, it's hard to use, but it does things that Macs just can't--at least not till Rhapsody.

In this thread I'm definitely in agreement with Alomex. Apple did a good job in its initial port to PPC, but failed to follow through. My 68040/33 at home does a lot of things faster than my 601/100 at work, and that's with both running 8.1, which is supposedly quite optimized for PPC. Scary. Yes, future versions like Allegro should fix things (I hear it will be PPC only), but it's a disaster for Apple that it took them this long. They blew their RISC lead in large part by their slow port.
