I saw the movie Rogan was describing. A guy falls in love with this wonderful robotic woman. She’s beautiful, gentle, very smart…. You begin to root for the two of them - how can anyone fail to see that she has real intelligence, that she’s real? He’s reminded that she's a robot the hard way - when she walks away when he’s in trouble - but no longer needed. It seems, she was programmed to be a survivor. Those “chat” algos are interesting. They imitate conscious speech simply by stringing words along in the same order we, humans tend to do - or, like children learn to talk, by being exposed to grownups talking. Of course, children at some point “wake up” and become truly self aware. Weinstein is wondering if the same thing may not happen, at some point, with AI.
