It was in 2004 going in to 2005, not just 2005. Not that it matters much. That doesn't challenge my point. Many of the people in 2004 and 5 remembered 1991 and earlier. Even those who didn't were not necessarily ignorant of it. Both Ukrainians and international observers noticed serious irregularities in the 2004 elections. Not just the run off, but even in the initial round (but everyone was sure that the two candidates in the runoff would be the ones elected for the runoff round by the initial round so no one really bothered challenging it too hard). There was ballot stuffing, voter intimidation, and questionable new voter registrations accepted in the rolls.
