It hasn't been shown that FF energy is viable without subsidies, altho I suspect it is.
That's a myth. Of course fossil fuels are viable without subsidies.

When was the last time you had to be offered a $7,500 tax credit to buy a gas-powered vehicle?

And if gas isn't viable without subsidies, then why would California do the exact opposite and tax it heavily?
