Just a rumour, but I thought it sounded likely enough to share with you all. While speaking to a friend who works at the University of Oregon, they mentioned that some of the people at the UofO who work on technology exchanges with third world and remote areas, specifically in the remote access and networking said that Pairgain products where being shipped to Mongolia(yes I know Mongolia? who cares etc...) apparently some of pairgain's products offer big advantages in areas where it isn't cost effective to lay fiber down. Maybe this fits in with the news release on 1/27/97 referring to Russia?
Sorry I don't have more(and better) information, just thought it was good to hear Pairgain being mentioned as a solution to remote access problems.
With all of the hype surrounding USWest's 40 city roll out (see Feb 9,98 Telephony, cover story DSL Headway) and Pairgain not being the product of choice for the big role out, I've been more than a little nervous about Pairgains prospects. My take(a very uninformed take!) on the USWest roll out is they appear to be more interested in grabbing market share than using products that will comply to standards.
Ofcourse, I know less than nothing about most of this stuff!
I wanted to thank you Jay and all for the great info( the options info is interesting, but very confusing) and humour, it makes lurking worthwhile.

Go Pair JD
