I agree with you that it is foolish to short after a split announcement, but I shorted before the announcement. You can follow the herd to the slaughter and buy AOL at this price. The market is soaring and this is helping this stock immensely. Once the market turns so will this overpriced helium balloon. Longs could get caught in the game that the institutions are playing with this stock. Once the olympics are over and we are bombing Iraq, this stock will fall, they all do.
