Dan,

I'm familiar with the Ebay system and it strikes me as not highly relevant here, because I really don't want to be spending my time voting for or against other members. I'd like to be doing stock stuff, participating together and not being political or involved in campaigns.

For those interested in the Ebay system, I'll describe it as I knew it in the past. If you're not interested in those details, skip to the last paragraph of this note. :-)

.At the time I participated the Feedback File was constructed in this way: anyone with auction dealings with the other person could write a positive, neutral or negative (character-limited) feedback report. A positive gave a point, a negative subtracted a point, a neutral did nothing to effect the feedback rating. The total number was rating, shown on each bid or offer by that bidder or seller.

The file was intended to provide information to other buyers and sellers, so they might have more confidence in a person who had many successful dealings, and would be wary of someone with negative feedback. At that time I was active there, the feedback content was visible to all, unless the participant himself chose to hide his feedback file. In that case the numerical value (rating) was visible, but the file could not be read.

For example, if his Feedback rating was 131, he had at least that many positive dealings, but he could have had 200 dealings that were negative and 331 that were positive and it would have given the same rating.

Because people were sending money to people, it was important to get some sort of references from other participants, and that made the Ebay feedback system excellent. Here, however, people can judge each person by his own posts. His own posts should stand for each participant to each reader. I'm wondering why vote?
