Putin promised not to kill Zelenskyy: Ex-Israeli PM
.
Former Israeli leader says he received a pledge from Russian president: ‘I won’t kill Zelenskyy.’

“I asked ‘What’s with this? Are you planning to kill Zelenskyy?’ He said ‘I won’t kill Zelenskyy.’ I then said to him ‘I have to understand that you’re giving me your word that you won’t kill Zelenskyy.’ He said ‘I’m not going to kill Zelenskyy.’”

Bennett said he then called Zelenskyy to inform him of Putin’s pledge.

“’Listen, I came out of a meeting, he’s not going to kill you.’ He asks, ‘Are you sure?’ I said ‘One hundred percent he won’t kill you.’”

What’s the point in removing Z off the stage? Kiev bosses would quickly pick another man. And the Russians would have wasted ammo. A truly new regime would have a lot more credibility if the Ukrainians do it themselves - or, if the military situation becomes totally obvious to everyone.

What, I think, the Russians need is either a pro-Russian regime, or at least some people in charge who they can trust not to flip away from any deal that may be made.

Had the deal been made last March, negotiations would have been easy. Just follow Minsk - with a few modifications. Now, I don’t even know where they could begin. Especially with so many Western politicians standing to have their careers in the crapper.
