My desires, one way or the other, have absolutely nothing to do with it.

Edit: My desire is for the US to stop starting wars.

Further edit: I find it weird that what I want would have anything to do with objective reality. In fact, I have found that "what I want" typically clouds my perceptions. I try not to want.

It is bizarre how many on this thread are blinded by some odd desire to see Russia win a war of aggression.

I don't pretend to speak for anyone else, but desiring a Russian victory and predicting one are completely independent thoughts. At many levels, both sides already have lost badly. My preferred outcome would see some Ukrainian survival with a weakened, but not totally crushed Russia. I suspect that the final result will either be worse for Ukraine or a lot worse for all of the planet. I am willing to sacrifice Ukraine to delay Armagedeon.

It is bizarre how many on this thread are blinded by some odd desire to see Russia win a war of aggression.

In spite of the fact that I was married to a Ukrainian woman (ethnic Russian from Lugansk) and have been in the country 5 or 6 times and at one time, back in the 90's, explored doing business there, I have no dog in the fight. I just resent the hell out of sending billions of our tax dollars and military gear to what's basically a tribal dispute that's none of our affair.

Ukraine's current borders are an artificial construct, much as was the case in the former Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia and elsewhere. Europe has always been tribal and tribal conflicts have been going on there for countless centuries. Eastern Ukraine and Crimea are mostly Russian, ethnically and linguistically. Western Ukraine is Ukrainian, ethnically and linguistically, with a few other minority populations thrown in.

If the US and NATO would butt out, this nasty war would be over in a hurry. Political and economic corruption is rife on both sides, but again, I wish we'd just stay the hell out of it..

Edit: IMO, there are no "good guys" to root for. It's not a football game..

We’ve sucked in all the hate America, love Russia members of SI due to the relentless non stop pro Russia anti-Ukraine posting for nearly a year.

And they complain about my relatively few posts as if victims of some vast western media conspiracy, involving practically every free nation government on the planet.

Apparently, the only “truth” comes from Vlad’s mouth, or Russian media.

Truly remarkable.
