Interesting question. Having traveled to many countries over the years - and generally keeping track of things - I think we are still one of the best.

I think all social political systems - with no exception I can think of - over time, have a tendency to acquire oligarchic features. It’s almost natural - people form formal and informal alliances with those they work well with, think similarly, have compatible goals and purposes…. For as long as it’s in compliance with a nation’s legal and accepted order - that’s not a problem. It does get problematic when power groups get too much power - like, the administrative state.

To get to the point, I don’t think we’re a DINO - yet. But, we all know about tendencies in that direction - as well as numerous specific problems and events. I think we may be drifting in the wrong direction - but, there is a very decent likelihood that this can be reversed.
