Well, I think three significant figures is good enough for 99.9% of Chemistry -g- Slide rules are just a measurement system using a logarithmic representation using length. When it comes to multiply or divide, the numbers are simply added or subtracted as Logarithms. The use of "logs" was regarded almost as cheating... worse then calculators in the good old days.
