I can think of a few people I knew who died in hospitals, with no family around. It so happened that my wife had to have a surgical procedure in January 2022. She ended up spending there, in the U of Miami, a few days longer than expected. It was at the height of one of the CoViD waves, mostly Omicron, but also a lot of Delta. They wouldn’t let me enter even the hospital lobby. Afaik, there was no legal enforcement of restrictions in the State - but their private security was more than enough.
