I just took a look at the S.I. 100 day chart for LGND. It really looks explosive! LGND's upward movement and volume has got to be setting off some bells on Wall Street.

Andrew,

>I think we can predict the ongoing nature of such unexpected
>discoveries.

I have to take exception to that part of your statement. I do not see these discoveries as being unexpected at all. What LGND has done is to assemble a world class scientific advisory board along with a solid team of research scientists. Keep the two groups together for long enough with a reasonably supply of cash and you will get results. Especially if management can keep them focused.

Right now I am wondering what the research side of the company is up to. You can bet they are not spending a lot of time feeding Targretin to rats; that is a job for technicians. Besides, now it is time to try it on humans and that is a job for clinicians which most of these people are not (they may have an MD along with their PhD, but they work in labs instead of hospitals). Just about all the compounds this thread is focusing on - assuming it can be said to focus on anything given the amount of pure drivel being put out by a few - are already in various stages of the clinical process. So what are the research groups up to? I haven't heard about LGND laying off a lot of people - if I had, I would likely have issued a market order to sell all I hold - so I must assume that they are up to something.

I am waiting for discoveries. And while the exact discovery may be unexpected, the fact that there will be discoveries is not.

Consider also what happens when LGND starts making money in another year or so. I do not think they will pay dividends and I sincerely hope they farm out as much manufacturing, distribution and marketing as possible and plow the greatest possible portion of their earnings into further research. That is how they can make money. The World has more than enough big pharmaceuticals and that is not the way to go in my opinion. Properly organized research pays. Big time.

Cheers, Torben

Andy, I would bet there is plenty of value there that we also don't yet recognize. The latest findings by Ron Evans alone appear to offer significant new opportunities. E.G. we aren't giving much of an allowance for the CNS area that appears to have pathways regulated by intracellular receptors & STATs. Bernie.
