The "U.S. wasting its money shooting balloons" argument is... ridiculous.

We're spending all that money anyway, on flying time in training and shoot-ex's to use the missiles... and to keep crews proficient in shooting them. All that event probably did... from that perspective in impact on the military... was introduce some bit of interest and minor entertainment value in a diversion to let the aircrews work on something a bit different.

"Domain Awareness Gap"... LOL!!! More than one of those floating about... The "awareness gap" that matters... isn't in the technical... but in the wet ware. By now, they will have already re-processed all the sensor data they want to, to look again... and see what's there to see. And, similarly... Ford will be reprocessing a bit of data of their own... trying to assess the risks and costs in damage in reputational risk being realized... if they do try to sell cars with batteries made in China...

And, that didn't take long:
Chinese citizens in Texas are incensed over a proposal to ban them from buying property in the state
That China sent the balloon... a major miscalculation... likely will prove to be a major historical turning point in the relationship... as the American people are no longer going to allow the politicians to "do whatever they want" in addressing "the problem" that China has now publicly identified itself to be... directly to all those who were not paying attention before seeing a Chinese military aerospace vehicle float through their backyard.

Most Americans will rightly view that as an obviously unprovoked and unjustified attack on our country... by a country that is not our friend, that we still, for some reason, have a relationship with as a trading partner...

That relationship was built on inequitable terms... on purpose... by us... in order to foster development in China. And, it has remained imbalanced... favoring China on inequitable terms... the entire edifice built on a foundation that is clearly not sustainable.

Beyond the obvious in the inflammatory, that's also the relevant takeaway to note from the article re Texas:

“By comparison, as an American go try to buy land near a Chinese military base and see how it works out for you. It would never happen there and it shouldn’t happen here."

Its long past time to re-level the playing field... to allow China to compete on equitable terms, or not at all.

But, much of that's going to happen anyway... as China poisons its own brand...

So, a "quickening" in events is likely... as being perceived as "on the wrong side of that hot-button argument" in politics... functions as "tipping point" issue in chaos theory...

China crossed a line... and in doing so... flipped a switch... and seem totally ignorant to the fact... ?

Unintended consequences ?

Or, maybe was all and only purposeful... if, as was true also with Russia's own choices... not having properly considered the situation in proper context, from proper perspective, without having correctly calculated risks and rewards, and margins for error ?

Those mockingly seeking to make light of it... convert it from an attack... a clear violation, and an intentional provocation... into an attack, a violation, a provocation... amplified by an insult.

It is not going to be dismissed lightly. "They" will try to let it "drift away" and be forgotten... but, the odds of that working are fairly small... Far more likely they'll be punished for it...

China has crossed a line... and now pretend to be damaged by the fact that we noticed ? LOL ! Diplomats are so adept in acting as such dim wits. Which, of course, in its real impact, means none of this is even remotely about "what Blinken thinks" about crossing lines, or about what is useful in stating the obvious, ?
Blinken tells China its spy balloon was ‘irresponsible’ after canceling Beijing trip
Blinken tells Chinese counterpart spy balloon incident 'must never happen again'
U.S. officials believe China may be providing Russia nonlethal military assistance in Ukraine war
Blinken claims China ‘strongly considering’ providing Russia with ‘lethal assistance’

where are the extensive videos and sensor recordings made by the pilots during the evaluation and shoot-down events?

some of us want to see those "object"ive pics/images...
so far we've only heard narrative/storytelling.
