I think there is some validity in memetic theory. That is the conjecture that ideas can infect a mind just as a virus can infect a body. The methods of infection are similar but of course they are not the same thing. This does imply that any idea that is reproduced over and over has a greater chance of taking hold in the next host.

I don't think the specific anti-vaccine message is a good one to allow unchecked spread, and more importantly I think the technique of these "astro-turf" influence campaigns needs to be exposed more often so that it doesn't become effective by default.
