Chinese has many semi autonomous regions.. central control is not what it seems.. can one say that about the US ? and comparatively how many was has the US engaged in in their relatively short life span :)

I guess it is a question of balance and perspective...

Yes China never seemed to pretend to bring freedom .. as do America and Russia.. but amazingly prosperity seemed to follow :)

for America 200 years ago is ancient history water under the bridge <ng> :)

Just imagine what an army that big could have done back then :)

In 133 BC, the Xiongnu forces led by the Chanyu [a] were lured into a trap at Mayi, while a Han army of about 300,000 troops laid in ambush against the Xiongnu

EDIT.. I look at the Chinese today .. I guess Han dominates but I wonder how many are pure Han :) Chinese vary greatly north to south

Chinese were always tiny in the pictures .. like Vietnamese.. most originally Cantonese, Taishan or Hakka in the diaspora.. when I first went to China at average height here 5.10-11 I thought I would stand out as tall.. WRONG :)

I only stood out as liking white with mediocre Canto and barely any Mandarin

Re <<Well there was that time when China spent over 200 years fighting the Xiongnu horse nomads and expanding westward...>>

a fix to your sentence "Well there was that time when China spent over 200 years pacifying the Xiongnu marauders and stopped their expansion eastward and redirected their attention westward..."

Re <<XiongNu>>

The xiongnu folks split broadly into two camps after the Han did special-attention-diversion-operation that was a part of stepps pacification, one group surrendered and settled in the middle of China China China per largess of the Han emperor, peacefully for the most part over the eons

another camp went to Europe and spiced up Hungary, that of the Austro-Hungarian Empire

... genetically the xiongnu of yesteryear are much inside of today's Hungarians, at least by micro-coding DNA, and given Europe's experience with the Hungarians, would say Team China was good to re-educate them post defeat resettlement at the get-go

folks for unknown reasons make out Team USA a melting pot, whereas USA is anything but, arguably, where as the true melting pots are elsewhere by mathematics, tradition, family values, and and and
