I wandered around all those gardens too. I lived in Eagle Rock and my oldest son went to school in La Canada; I had a lot of pals in Pasadena. I just went onto SI to check the ASND thread and punched this instead, and read about wandering around gardens with real writers and it made me feel really good. Especially the Huntington with that Chinese stuff that the guard would come out and bitch about because I touched it. I touched the stone carving on purpose. felt good.

thanks, you people.

jpmac,

You shoulda lived where I lived when I lived there when I was a little kid. Nothing but citrus and avocado groves and ranches and dairy farms, with a few houses here and there. It was real easy to get lost, but you never went hungry. Of course, now that whole landscape is all covered by freeways and highrises and strip malls and tract houses and the ubiquitous fast-food joints. Well, I guess you can still get lost and you still won't go hungry.
