Dino, I sold out of GEMS a couple months back at a small loss, and yesterday decided to get back in. Even added today (at 12 1/4). Part of my rationale is based on such perspective as the following, which was on my Investor Insight today:

Glenayre -2: Analysts Optimistic About 2nd Half Of Yr

Chris Larsen, an analyst at BT Alex. Brown Inc., said that the slowing demand in the Asia Pacific region shouldn't surprise anyone because the area has had economic problems since early fall.

"We've seen less demand from a number of wireless carriers," he said.

Analysts said that despite concerns over the region, they still think that the company could have a good year if it does well in the second half. Seth Potter, an analyst at Sands Brothers & Co., said that the company's acquisition of Wireless Access Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif., and Open Development Corp. of Norwood, Mass., should help earnings for the third and fourth quarters.

Glenayre acquired Open Development and Wireless Access in the fourth quarter of 1997.

"I think there's a lot of opportunity with the company given what they're doing with their enhanced services and what could potentially happen with Wireless Access," he said. "The question is how fast they can ramp up these acquisitions and add to the bottom line."

Eric Zimits, an analyst at Hambrecht & Quist Inc., said that the company's optimistic view is driven by the continued acceptance of two-way paging in the U.S. and globally and its enhanced services business.

I hope to hang on until 20, but I'd consider cutting my losses if I thought the overall market was ripe for a 10-20% correction (which I don't see in the near term - at least the next 30-45 days). Best -

You will probably have to hold another 6 months before you really see any light at the end of this tunnel. My TA site still has the stock rated as a buy but resistance is at just a couple ticks below the close.

The Microwave business will be sold but that is a side issue.

The industry is actually doing much better consider PAGE's earnings and now MCLL's based on revenues I see lots of growth:

biz.yahoo.com

I don't think there will be much to be really excited about for several months but that does not mean the stock can't move in anticipation.

Two years of disappointment does set the stage for a rally in the second half of 98. That's what the guy at IR told me when we discussed the company and it's stock.

Obviously if you pick the right stock you will make more money sooner.

Got a great pick? Clue me in, but at least you have to know GEMS will never get any lower than 8 and hey it once was a $50+ stock.

Regards, Jeff

I am not in the stock, but I would say that if you're not willing to hold for 2 - 3 quarters more -- go ahead and sell, but if you can hold perhaps you'll see 25 - 30 again. BWDIK.
