In MLP's and/or w/ income properties, depreciation 'recapture' is paid at ordinary income rates and is triggered at the time of sale (FIFO). So, with this corporate structure, it appears that depreciation is/can be classified as ROC (up to some point). My 1099's adjust the qualified dividend but not in all cases or total100%. Schwab s/d be reducing my cost basis but I have not verified that and/or which tax lots were adjusted. So far I have NOT noticed any adjustments to my cost basis but have not dug into the details. May have to give Schwab a call on this. Bottom line this year and prior years the KMI dividend was not taxed even in the new corporate structure. Will be watching in the out years to see if this changes. I may need to start adding some shares. That should increase my cost basis. Higher cost basis then future ROC s/d reduce your basis? Right now my avg KMI cost is $12.35/share w/ buys in 2018 & 2020, and is ranked 12 in my top 10. WMB is ranked 4th and ENB #24 (which bought out it's sister MLPs 10/2018 - Enbridge (ENB) recently announced a $10.5 billion buyout of its MLPs, Enbridge Energy Partners (EEP), Enbridge Energy Management (EEQ), Enbridge Income Fund Holdings (EBGUF), and Spectra Energy Partners (SEP). ) In the tax deferred accounts, I hold WMB, KMI, ENB, PBA and no MLPs as my pipeline basket. Unfortunately I have some Buys of KMI from 2013 & 2014 costing $31-$37. FWIW my avg cost on my PBA shares are now ALL positive based on cost even w/ shares bought in 2014-2015 at prices from $15 - $39.
