Stevia is the name of a plant, but also the name of the chemical that is extracted when the plant is soaked in water or alcohols. It is also refined into less complex chemicals (erythritol) which don't seem to affect the sweetness but allow the food processors to disguise what they have put into their products. Most sugar-free options in the US today are Stevia derivatives and are linked to the sudden deaths that have been reported (as opposed to the vaccines which are only linked by the personal ancedotes of crackpots).
