Idaho, Texas, and Florida... perhaps about to emerge in a few others ? Arizona not going down without a fight... Alaska has a slim chance, and, maybe Montana.. but Covid related immigration from California seems its dooming them ? :<) But, its still a difficult question to address... mostly as you note, politics mostly prevents any serious discussion... Take Iraq as an example, as I mentioned it... Is Iraq better off today than they were between 1979 and 2003 ? And the answer depends largely on who's asking and answering... but, residual unexploded ordinance even in that... Soros... posing as the "champion of Democracy"... as long as it is only and exactly what he wants... which pretty much everyone else recognizes as... insane ? I assume this is his . .. And there's not too much in it to quibble with factually... his opinion, though ? It sounds like Iraq has exactly what they want... except for "greater success"... which requires them making better choices... as opposed to the ones they are making. But... they ARE free to make the choices that they are ? So what Soros is saying is... they're not free because "they're making bad choices" and are "not succeeding" because of it ? Yeah. That sounds exactly like freedom to me. Having free choice... and making good choices... not the same thing ? Soros doesn't like what he sees in Iraq ? Says there were 902 "violent civilian deaths" in 2020 in Iraq (with 41.2 million people)? A quick check... and in Cook County (Chicago) there were 986... (with only 5.25 million people.) But, Cook County... like Portland, Seattle, San Francisco... has been doing exactly what Soros WANTS ? I bet the streets in Iraq are safer than Chicago, and cleaner than San Francisco's ? But he labels Iraq as "no country for democracy"... instead of Chicago ? "Between 2003 and 2020, the only constants have been communal violence, terrorism, poverty, weapons proliferation, crime, political instability, social breakdown, riots, disorder and economic failure". Apparently... they need to quit following the Soros recipe... as that's exactly the same result I see everywhere Soros has been enabled in buggering the system of justice ? The question though... is not one Soros enables us to addresses re Iraq? Oddly... he didn't have people there conducting the body count when Saddam ran the place ? Why not ? Iraq at least appears to be making progress recently... while Chicago gets worse every year ? The nearest you can come to comparative figures... Human Rights under Saddam Hussein's Iraq Read that... and ask... is Iraq today... or Chicago, worse than than that ? Should be an easy answer. Soros wraps up with "As for the “end of history”, it was, after all, a somewhat Eurocentric concept".... which is particular laughable, given his attempt to impose... not "western standards" but Soros's own brand of insanity... as a Soroscentric concept that's rational to apply in evaluating Iraq... ? Not the end of the "problem" with western elites attempts to impose Soros brand of PC insanity on others. The British legacy of "divide and conquer" could easily have been undone after the war... isolate the Marsh Arabs from the north... the Shia from the Sunni... the Kurds from the rest... and... instant stability ? Its the western liberal insanity... and nothing else... that insists... they all have to live together and get along... in order for US to feel good about ourselves ? Why not redraw the borders to rationalize them ? i thought that all patently obvious at the time... And, "throwing money at it"... didn't help... but made things vastly worse... Those calling the shots, back then... seem to have FINALLY come around to seeing that, now... only in 2023. And, then, here's Fareed Zakaria., from 2021.. on The Underappreciated Success of Democracy in Iraq. .. I guess we in the west should just agree that... in any similar circumstance in the future... we should just put the French in charge of the aftermath of it. They're better at it, at least relative to Brits, if local experience counts for anything... and tend to marry into the local tribes, rather than round up and kill their children... and their culture ? If nothing else, they'll at least leave a cultural legacy of quality pastry behind them...
