NOPE.. does not at all depend upon circumstance .. altruism is FAR FAR FAR more than charity .. an also ran much abused... take that soldier giving life for country .. think of all he has given up .. all possibilities.. do not confuse it with socialism :) not the same animal ... socialism requires altruism just to exist .. (capitalism is required for it to flourish) but the converse is not true.. altruism can be totally without socialism .. any die hard anti socialist can be altruistic take sense for example :)
