Hope you don't mind if I chime in. If you put a limit order in at 35, your order will fill if the ask drops to or below 35. Generally, the way Compaq trades, you'll fill exactly at your limit even if it drops lower.

If you're looking to buy $1000 worth, why not buy at market? With a company like Compaq, you've got a great long term investment. It will be the doubles and triples over the next few years that will make the difference, not the $25 you'll save at the risk of watching it get away. Of course you may get it at 35, but I'll probably buy some tomorrow whatever the price.
