As everyone can see, I've mostly been posting about semiconductor technology. But I saw again (probably for the third time) the Fog of War on Turner Classic the other night. I decided to watch the whole thing (again) for the first time in about ten years. I was at least happier this time because I wasn't watching it in a vacuum - anyone else watching TCM that night was seeing it as well so other people could learn some good lessons as well. But too bad our politicians don't pay attention to excellent sources of information such as this lifelong string of experiences learned by McNamara during some very perilous times for the USA. Thank god for Tommy Thompson - watch the video and you'll see what I mean. Anyway, I think the documentary is excellent - very instructive with regard to empathizing with the enemy (put yourself in his shoes), know your history, be really, really careful when it comes to nuclear weapons, etc, etc. But this part was really telling - McNamara admits that the USA was involved in the Vietnam coup of Diem. It completely validates what I said before about Tim F's specious comments. I jokingly said that the USA has been in the 'coup business' for a long time but they decided to take a hiatus during the Maiden Revolution in late 2013 into early 2014. Even though the issues were critically important for the USA - big stuff with regard to East vs West. The USA was in Cabo San Lucas getting a suntan. Yea right! This shows that it's a bunch of nonsense that we've been hearing from the Neocon connected Tim F. - that the USA is 'lilly white' and wouldn't deal in nasty things like coups in Kiev. Here's McNamara: <<McNamara: We need a way to get out of Vietnam, and this is a way of doing it. Kennedy announced we were going to pull out all of our military advisors by the end of '65 and we were going to take 1000 out by the end of '63 and we did. But, there was a coup in South Vietnam. Diem was overthrown and he and his brother were killed. I was present with the President when together we received information of that coup. I've never seen him more upset. He totally blanched. President Kenndy and I had tremendous problems with Diem, but my God, he was the authority, he was the head of state. And he was overthrown by a military coup. And Kennedy knew and I knew, that to some degree, the U.S. government was responsible for that .>>https://www.errolmorris.com/film/fow_transcript.html amazon.com
