Hi Cheeky, now I was really surprised to see Bishop's poem, "The Fish" because I was talking about Marianne Moore's poem, "The Fish",. It seems they were not only friends, but had similiar tastes in poems.

I have been trying to find Moore's poem on line and, voila, success finally. The reason I couldn't type it here, is because everything goes flush with the left margin and I don't, internet genius, that I am, don't know how to prevent this.

I was talking about the visual placement and patterning of this poem which is outstanding. Notice that each stanza is exactly identical and placed in the same order, which adds impact to the poem.

Here is the url for the poem, go look at it.

I very much liked Bishop's poem also. You can see the eastern provincial influence in her poems. Did you know, that according to her biography she was an alcoholic and lesbian. I'm sure her life was a rich background for her wonderful poetry and she drew deeply from that source for her insight in poetry.
