[Network World 02/11]

Bay Networks Inc. is developing an ATM backbone solution that can be built by a third party. As a result, Bay will
be able to bring a higher capacity backbone switch to market more quickly. The company, which stated that it needs a
"pure" ATM switch to replace System 5000BH in network centers for high-density OC-48s, did not disclose the
third-party manufacturer of the ATM backbone solution. In Summer, 1998, Bay is planning to release its
next-generation Baystack 10M bit/sec Ethernet and 10M/100M bit/sec autosensing Ethernet switches. Article includes
Bay's frame/cell switching scheme.

Larry,

It was a win from the 911 system in Texas - a 10 county wide area network. New link:

biz.yahoo.com

''When selecting a vendor, network reliability and resiliency were foremost in our minds. We also had to integrate the network with existing equipment among the counties, which meant that the new equipment had to be standards based. We selected Bay Networks because the company best met our needs.''
