Wharfie,
That's why I said ":historic".
WTF? There's nothing "historic" about it. Samo samo, North Korea can make nooks and ballistic missiles, but they can't even build up their rail network, their farming infrastructure, or their economy.
After deluge, climate change fears make S.Korea prioritise Seoul flood defences
Somehow, I think South Korea will manage this just fine.
They plan to enter the post-fossil Age by transitioning to renewables.
They're not doing this to stop the climate from changing, although it does make for some good international PR.

The reality is that South Korea is 100% reliant on imports for its fossil fuel needs. Any transition to "renewable" energy, even a small fraction, would put Korea on track toward more self-reliance.

Speaking of which, Korea knows how the F to build high-speed rail. I look forward to riding on the KTX when I go back sometime this year or next.

In comparison, California can't even build its own high-speed rail line. Or build up local mass transit like BART. This despite California being more leftist than Korea.
