"very time we cross a "point of no return," there is no civilization-ending calamity."

And yet, we can't go back to 350 or 400 ppm of CO2, and we can't go back to temperatures of 1980. We can't go back to where we can limit sea level rise to 2 feet.

What's a civilization-ending calamity? For the people in Paradise, it was the fire. For the people in the SW, it might be Lake Mead running out of water. For Europe, it might be the current drought. For some of the people on the southern border, it was hurricanes and floods. Arab Spring was brought on by drought, grain export freezes in some exporting countries because of crop failures, and high food prices.
