I did not now that he passed away - may he rest in peace. My dear mother recently passed away, so I have a lot of empathy for those families in similar situations because it's very hard. But I was operating under the assumption that he was still here - so I don't think that was "uncalled for" in the past. But, in my view, it would be "uncalled for" and "represent me poorly" if I continued to do so in the future.
