Depending on whats in your 401K, you can cash out and deposit it into an IRA within 60 days. It's a lot quicker then transfering. I would suggest a discount broker with no IRA fee.
I'm a retired full service broker and see the industry going to the discounters.
I love @home and it is a major holding in my IRA and I'm glad it is because I have a nice little profit in it and expecting much more
