For those who hate the US and its military strength would you rather have North Korea or some other psycho take on that role? For there will always be a nation or two that will lead the world, militarily speaking.

The Broken Clock Fantasy peace world is only attainable in heaven, not in life.

Rarebird,
Might makes right practically speaking among nations. Why else do Nations spend so much money on a military budget? It doesn't, of course, make you right, in idea or in principle.
The amount a nation can spend on a military depends on its economic strength.

In the past, empires "grew" their economies by colonizing territory, exploiting its resources (including human), and expanding its cultural and societal influence.

These days, in what is becoming known as the "rules-based world order" (even though I hate that phrase), nations grow their economy through free trade, cooperation, and a shared sense of small-L liberalism.

WinnXi the PooTin wants to revert back to imperialism. The old "might makes right" concept, where history is written by the victors.
