The first time I stopped by that visitor center was ~ 1982. The glacier was easily visible across the lake. There were icebergs calved from the glacier floating near the visitor center.

I stopped by there about 2 years ago now, maybe three, time flies. I was not sure I could even see the glacier, it had retreated up around the corner, as shown below.

I like the title on this, kind of like the markets.

Then there is this.

Been up north for ~ 25 years, until recently drove around a lot. A bit like the sea ice graph, from about 2004 to 2015 I could visibly sea a lot of glaciers retreating, especially between Summit Lake and Valdez. And our winters became milder. Just no question.

About 2015 or so it seemed to change, I could see the glaciers growing again, mainly again between Summit Lake and Valdez. And our winters have been notably colder, more snow again, and so on. This winter was I think colder than normal, not record but quite a bit of snow. Still winter, won't warm up. Last winter, the 2021/2022, was the worst one in my time here, overall. Cold and record snow pack.

Ewave it. The hardcore environmentalists would say that little bottom shelf formation is a false one, the graph will continue on down. I am thinking the sea ice is expanding again, and they will be dead assed wrong.

The only constant is change, especially with the weather. Gotta think longer cycles with the weather. Ask all the CA farmers with flooded fields.
