Mike and Jfred,

Sanity is relative, as anyone in "Sane" Francisco will tell you. Now would you gentlemen care to discuss Bezerkeley?

Once upon a time, between the first (1500s) and second (late 1960s) sets of settlers, much of California was bucolic--even Baldwin Park and Pomona and definitely Covina/West Covina, and Diamond Bar and Walnut were but wide spots in the road.

Why, of course sane, MrQ. Here's a true, fine example:

The rain had subsided and car, rather than canoe, was my method of choice for today's commute. From the dashboard barking box, a report is on-the-air detailing the plight of homeowners along SF's sea cliffs. Their fine $3million(+) homes are in immediate danger&#151possibly losing a few hundred feet of status and recognition.

One homeowner interviewed:

&#147I can't believe this is happening to us. Our home along the Russian River is facing the same situation&#133&#148

Yep, they built not one but two multi-megabux shelters in the two areas most noted for frequent slides. It's only money, I suppose&#133sanity, too. Good to have a backup plan, I say.
