His humorous commentary is precise enough... but, a more serious answer... as its relevant in relation to accurate perception of market behaviors...

Here's numbers... reinforcing his point in terms of origins... sort of... if not in projection, obviously...

He left out a few things, too... first being the "social element" in the constant expansion of the number of letters appended in order to take in as many "variants" as preference makes possible... while fostering the division into allowable preferences becoming "classes"... as a political ploy to foster a shift in "sexual identity" into a required "political preference"... when reality is that no one really cares... or should care... what elements of sexuality as "preference" or "fetish" one person or another has as a preference.

Its not different, I suppose, than the similar psycho-sexual social movement that occurred in Germany in the years (the 1930's) leading into the political transformation of that society into a "sexually tolerant" society... in which sexual deviation was tolerated and/or celebrated... while all other forms of expression were increasingly subjugated to "state interest" under the NAZI's. See the same here, already, in the "forced tolerance" being used to discredit other political beliefs that are derived from anything other than a sexual preference...

But, yeah... as always... pretty soon the kids will figure out that "the system" of mind control through "education" has royally fucked with their heads... to exploit and control them... and then, there will be payback... along with the wreckage of ruined lives... A difference, today, in that social "wreckage" in the past resulted from not listening to advocates of reason... while today the "wreckage" results from "listening to the adults" and not from rebelling against them ?

Bill "assumes" that shift will occur... as it has in every generation in a free society... when kids rebel against "authority" trying to tell them what to do that makes no real sense beyond "what society expects"... but, still, without explaining how that played out in Germany in the Hitler Youth movement... or how that works in North Korea, today ?

"Equal and opposite reaction" rules likely apply, now, though... as the presumptive "authority" today... squanders its social relevance....

Tipping point issues apply as.... "and then, the abyss"... See it as the similar silly excess in liberality in pre-1929 society... quickly becoming that desperate scraping by we saw in the depths of the Great Depression...

Biological reality... is that "gay/lesbian" constitutes around what Gen X shows... under 3% of the population... and, the rest is "political" and/or "social" faddism... largely a product of an purposeful exploitation of children's immaturity... That "gender dysphoria" results from psycho-social abuse of children... is true enough... which doesn't convert disturbed persons abuses of their own children... or others... into "a good thing" that we should embrace and encourage more of ? Only a sick society composed of persons that are too self absorbed and myopic to understand their own relationship to reality would enable such... which Mayer said indirectly only by pointing out "California" vs "Ohio" as different ?

Maher soft sold it... to avoid pointing out to his audience how stupid they are for ever going along with it... avoiding a proper discussion of gender dysphoria as usually not biological at all... but a mental illness that is typically a survival mechanism that is a direct product of social indoctrination by parental abuses... forcing kids into improper valuations of themselves as adjuncts of parental projection. Its (another) metric showing "bad parenting" in a statistically measurable form...

It's about as socially healthy as... mothers who try to make their kids into the beauty queens they had wanted to be... with pagents for three year olds, etc.

But, measuring the consequences of the abuses of children by "social advocates"... doesn't find a limit there. The more telling metric isn't found in metrics tied to those abuses leading to created "gender dysphoria"... being reflected as suicide rates in "gender confused" children... but in those abuses leading to a parallel and more general purposeful devaluation of children's self worth, and their sexual identity as part of that self analysis... as is reflected in suicide rates of teen-aged boys...

Social advocacy of "gender disruption" during social development... is ruining lives... and killing children...

Growing up is hard enough... for all kids... without the forced "liberation" of children from (the natural biological reality of) sexual stero-typing... requiring that they must grow up as confused extras in the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show to win social approval... or, so their left wing nut job parents (or, educators) can pose re "how cool" they are... by sacrificing their kids lives on the alter of their own egos...

Shouldn't surprise anyone that the numbers reported in the prior link... closely mimic these: but, note... the link fails to segregate the issue by sex... limiting its view to change by age group ? Why ?

This link does better... noting that our current "social transformation" is disproportionately hard on boys...

Any other "social change" being imposed that resulted in any other group having 4X the suicide rate as others... would probably be seen as requiring us taking some action... ?

Masculinity is being deliberately devalued by the left... and that means by the schools... instead of seeking a rational balance in having all humans being properly valued as individuals... and that link above shows the real cost of their social policy choices...

Social reality is... beyond procreation... and its relation to social commitment and stability in child rearing... sex mostly doesn't really matter very much. Sexual preferences... are as much about understudied aspects of biology and "imprinted learning" as they are understudied elements of social influence and imposition... and, as anything else, are about as relevant otherwise in outcome related elements... as whether you prefer sci-fi or zombie movies for entertainment... Which is true... unless a society opts to "make it" more relevant... one way or another...

Today... it is wrongly being forced into relevance... with devastating result... when it shouldn't be a proper subject for social influence.

That doesn't mean societies will all view it the same way, of course... but, the ancient Greeks managed to maintain organizational, productive and martial superiority while tolerating it as "natural"... while more sexually liberal societies have always existed... along side others with more conservative bent... The differences appear largely tied to variations in environmental controls imposing limits in which the different cultural views develop... More difficult or challenging environments tend to foster more conservatism... where the cost of sustaining each member of a tribe is high. And, where the environment ensures survival is easy... there is less cost, (less value ascribed to each) and less effort applied, to sustain the greater social rigor that others survival requires... But, that greater rigor (or the opposite) also translates into advantage (or not) in other ways... ?

Same thing happens in change within a society... as change occurs over time depending on whether times are "fat" or "lean"... an adjunct to the "hemlines" argument re market cycles...

What you see now... is the sort of BS you only see occurring... when times are "easy"...

And, it tends to evaporate when reality re-asserts itself... in various ways... that forces accounting for costs.
