Neither did I, until the fights over the confederate flag reminded me that they were the enemy of the US. We didn't name places after British generals and kings, nor German leaders from either WW, nor Japanese, or from the countless small wars. Santa Ana is not named after Santa Anna. Why should we honor the enemy which killed more Americans than any other?
