Wharfie,
Kevin McCarthy has quietly implemented a pay raise for members that could be $30,000+ per person. It circumvents the Constitution by instead reimbursing their rent, utilities, & meals.
Remember when Alexandria Occasional-Cortex complained about not being able to afford an apartment in Washington, D.C.? This was before she started getting paid as the youngest member of the House:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez can't afford to rent an apartment in D.C. (cnbc.com)

Even as recently as last year, she was still complaining about having to pay for two residences on a "meager" $174K/year congressional salary:

AOC laments 'insane' cost of being congresswoman despite $174,000 salary | Washington Examiner

Based on her "troubles," she should be thanking Kevin McCarthy from the bottom of her heart for reimbursing her rent, utilities, and meals.

How much you wanna bet that the ungrateful blowhard doesn't?
