US has no ‘viable capability’ in hypersonic weapons: Congressman

By Russia Desk

25 March 2023

The United States does not have a “viable capability” in hypersonic weapons, Representative Doug Lambourne said. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to the congressman, Russia “probably has primitive technology”, but the main and growing threat to the United States is China, which will build hundreds and thousands of such missiles.

The congressman acknowledged the lack of necessary technologies in the United States. “We don’t have a viable hypersonic capability,” he said.

Lambourne also noted that so far, no one has the ability to counter hypersonic weapons, which he believes also requires special attention. In this regard, he called for focusing on financing and developing hypersonic weapons.

The United States lags behind Russia and China in the development of hypersonic weapons, where such systems have already been fielded and even used in combat. So, during a special operation in Ukraine, the Russian Aerospace Forces repeatedly used the Kinzhal hypersonic complex.
