Dan,
I guess this is just where we disagree. As someone who writes software for a living I really don't ever want anyone telling me what I can or can not put in my software. I actually thing that this is the unforeseen circumstance of the governments action. I also disagree with the argument that "special rules" apply to the dominant company. It feels like affirmative action for industry, and whether I agree with it in terms of civil rights or not, I do not agree with industrial affirmative action.

And I equate the Orrin Hatch speculation that Microsoft will "dominate the internet" to condemning someone for bank robbery because they walk past a bank with $5 bucks in their pocket. No robbery, no crime, no trial just a guilty verdict. Yea that seems like USA I love.

Gates to weigh in on Senate hearing news.com

I guess Bill cancelled his Estonian/Freedonian engagement and decided he could make it anyway. Good call on his part, given past precedent there's likely to be more fawning than hard questions. The Senators are probably as in awe of the world's richest man as anybody else. Now, we'll see what the company line of the day is right from the horse's mouth. Chrysler car radio? Politically naive Bill bushwacked by Netscape bullying the DOJ? "Twinkle, Twinkle"? We'll just have to wait and see. I'm sure I'll be "richly" entertained. Got to watch for who's riding shotgun too.

Cheers, Dan.
