AOLers jumping ship:

........And that differentiation got easier on Monday when
AOL raised the price of its all-you-can-eat
package to $21.95 a month. In the past, ISPs had
tried to attract AOL users by emphasizing the
reliability of their networks and their customer
service levels. Now, they can boast that they're
cheaper, too.

But will AOL users jump ship in response to the
predatory marketing?

Lefkowitz at EarthLink says that his Web site and
toll-free number have been "besieged by tens of
thousands of people" this week responding to his
"Get Out of AOL Free Offer."

Yes, I keep trying to put myself in the shoes of the advertiser, but it is hard. The internet does provide convenience when shopping for books, CDs and the like. Nice for trading stocks, but it seems to me that its primary use for other items is simply information. I did get information for a PC once -- but had to use the phone to arrange the purchase and I already new what I wanted. I tend to think that others get information on their purchases the way I do, but advertising ...

Searching for information on a purchase -- yeah. Buying something because it caught my eye on the internet, no. I think advertisers dollars are better spent in a targeted fashion or that TV is a better "blunder-buss."
