Or, more likely, he was exploiting his son's death for political advantage. Pretending he was a hero killed in the Iraq war is more impressive politically than dying from cancer. Since he's said it a hundred times, we know it wasn't a slip of the tongue or faulty memory.
Either way, Brandon's memory isn't what it used to be.

Whether he's exploiting his son's memory for political gain, or whether he truly believes the falsehood, I'm not going to judge.

But I do believe that Brandon isn't mentally capable of doing anything more than following a script. Anyone who wants to pretend otherwise is fooling themselves.
