AMD is throwing out all stops to try to clear up their problems in FAB 25 which is their Texas mega fab. With the size and complexity of the K6, that has so far proven to be a mind boggling task. Part of the hoped for solution is the shift to 0.25 um technology. Of course that will shrink the die size but is also a newer process that will take some time to get down the learning curve on.

I certainly would not count AMD out. They are know as a very agressive competitor and excellent marketer. Maybe the best IDT can reasonably expect is that these problems will resonate in customers minds so that when IDT has enough parts to sell that the larger 2nd and 1st tier accounts will still be eager to do business even if AMD and Cyrix/NSM improve their situation. with all the competition in uPs, customers can pick who they want to go with based on who can realiably provide the quantity and performance grades they need.

Maybe by mid year IDT will have ramped up production enough to entertain doing business with a major OEM. At least until then they will make much more money selling the limited supply of parts available at a higher ASP to third tier accounts IMO.
